Thank You Trees!!

Trees are great for many reasons, and once and while we should thank them for all they provide us!

Thank you trees, for giving us oxygen and for eating up our carbon dioxide. Thank you trees, for giving us coloured leaves, flowers and shade. Thank you trees, for giving us apples, oranges and may other fruits. Thank you trees for giving us maple syrup to make our pancakes even better. Thank you trees, for giving us paper and wood. Thank you trees, for giving homes to all the squirrels and birds. I could go on and one for hours, but the truth is, right now I am not so thankful for trees, especially because yesterday we discovered trees can cause this:

And this...

And this..

If you guessed that a tree gave us water in our basement, tell them what they have won Bob!! In the middle photo, you can see how high the water got at prime leakage. After finding this water (and my crying) we called :

Since it was 9pm and not much could be done, we arranged someone to be at our door at 7am to figure our what was causing Niagara Falls in our basement. After a sleepless night and a set the alarm kind of morning, we had this at our doorstep at 7am:

Okay so our guy was taller and older, but never the less it was a relief! Mr. Rooter pulled a few tricks out of the truck and found the cause of our basement pool. Tree roots had woven their skinny little selves through the pipes and caused major blockages which resulted in a major pipe leaking. After our hero left (and the bill paid) Geoff and Hannah went to their favourite hardware store bought a shop vac and started licking up the water from the basement. The photos I took were from yesterday evening after some damage control had been done, I wasn't in sane mind to grab the camera at the time, instead we were grabbing our keepsake boxes, our Easter/Halloween/Christmas boxes, and an assortment of other items we had crammed downstairs. Sadly our losses consisted of 2 suitcases, a computer monitor, a tent, a space heater, a paper shredder, and a roll of Christmas wrapping paper. Thankfully everything else was stored in tupperware containers (Geoff keeps giving me the credit for the bright idea, I just love tupperware) to protect the sentimental. So for the next few days our kitchen will be looking exactlylike this:

Hopefully by the weekend all this will find its way back downstairs in time for Geoff's mom and aunt's visit next week!!
